Eatng out:
You can go to cheap and clean Mexican places:
- Carnitas Sahuayo (Tortillas with meat only, many salsas, good)
- Adrians Burger
- Las Glorias
- Restaurante Chayito
- Oscars close to the plaza
- Hotdogs and Hamburguesas, just on the main road, eating on the street side
- Taqueria Licho, just the first corner after you enter LDM, on the leM side
More expensive restaurants with bigger choices and nicer settings:
- Tlaquepaque
- Waterman Café, good breakfast with some good Cappuchino and they bake their own bread, and do chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon rolls; closed on Tuesdays
- Neptuno
- Quinta Bernal
- Apapacho, vegetarian
- Casa Saul, is the closest to my house
- Endless Summer, busy with people from Canada and US, TV always running
- Arcelias, closed Saturday and Sunday
- El Paraiso (not a restaurant, but an organic store with good joghurt and milk products, salads, eggs etc, and very good sourdough bread, bread only on Wednesdays)
On the beach, from North to South
- Olivias
- El Socio (there are 2 besides each other, but I think El Socio is be]er)
- Tomatina, mostly open Thursday to Sunday, with live music and dancing, good cocktails, pizza is good, too
- Pez Vela, the most southern restaurant on the beach
If you like to see the sunset, and also another beach, go to Los Venados, one beach south of LDM (Memos Monday walks some time go there). You can also walk to “our” beach just on a small trail close to my house, about 15 min. walk through the jungle. Take a flash light and start walking around 5.30 pm latest. It is safe, just very dark on your way home.
On Monday mornings, there is a 60 to 90 minutes walk with Memo, starting at the Plaza at 8 am. Just be there. At Saturdays, there is a longer walk with Memo, where you have to get informations from him (they sometimes take a collectivo, or the bus). You will meet other nice people on these walks. Walks are for free. Check that, and other activities, out on the facebook page of LDM, “Whats up in Lo de Marcos”

In El Monteon:
- After the entrance bow, there is one on each side, they are both good and inexpensive. El Crucero and El Paraiso.
- Following the main road, there is El Palmito on the leM side (very good Pozole, a Mexica soup dish) and Cocina Economiqua Enrique
In La Penita: La Penita is general cheaper than LDM, also the shopping.
- Yesi
- El Pollito
- Restaurant La Avenida
- La Casita de Irma (recommended, cheap and good)
- Avanti Tra]oria Restaurant, Italien, good
With children, and shopping, and other activities:
- Go to the crocodile sanctuary, Cocodrilaria Del Nayar, there are others, too (check for Cocodrilario on google)
- El Molote Hot springs; you get your own hot pool and can soak there for hours
- Ojo de Agua El Rey, also hot springs
- Botanic Garden of Puerto Vallarta, 40 minutes south of PV, take swim stuff, there are good spots in the river to swim
- From El Monteon, there are several places where you can, aMer some walking, go to swim in the river, here is best to ask Memo
- Just before Altavista, you can walk to Petroglyphs, also nice to swim there in the ponds.
- If you like hiking, I recommend downloading the following apps: mapy.cz and guru maps (maybe the pro version), they show most of the hiking trails. Mapy is li]le bit more detailed.
- Markets: check for “Tianguis” which are the art and street markets. There are several markets around LDM, on different days, San Pancho (San Francisco) is on Tuedays, La Cruz de Huanacaxtle on Sundays 9 am to 2 pm, Sayulita Farmers Market on Fridays, La Penita on Thursdays (if you go early to La Penita, you can watch the fisherman feeding the rest of the fish catch of the day to the pelicans and fregate birds. Be there around 9 am LDM time. La Penita has one hour earlier in time, so it will be 8 am over there.) Check out the days on the other markets before you go.
- There are open mic nights around town, f.ex. on Mondays at El Pequeno Paraiso which is a hotel close to Tomatino
